Abstract:

Abstract Application of numerical models is useful in coastal sediment studies; however, it is essential to calibrate the models in an appropriate method. Empirical equations, historical satellite imagery and other coastal data and evidence are proposed for the models calibration in the vicinity of coastal indicators around the site of projects. In this study, coastal sediment process of Kuhmobarak area is investigated to evaluate construction of a new port at the southeast of Hormozgan province. For this purpose, a comprehensive study on effective parameters is performed to describe sediment process of the area. Furthermore, numerical models of sediment transport calculation and morphological evaluation are calibrated using the suggested organized methodology.

Calibration of Area-Reduction Empirical Method for Dam Reservoir

The mathematical model of Area-Reduction empirical method is written through MATLAB software. Three periods of the hydrologic survey are required to run, calibrate and validatethe model. The Dez Dam, which is one of the most significant dams of the Middle East with three periods of hydrographic surveys in 1972, 2002 and 2011, has been chosen for the investigation. The annual average of the inpu...

Ecotoxicological characterization of marine sediment in Kostrena coastal area.

Samples of marine sediment were taken on 4 selected sites close to the shipyard industry in Kostrena coastal area. Concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Hg, Fe) were analyzed from chemical-analytical and toxicological aspect. For toxicity detection, the bacterial bioluminescence test (Vibrio fisheri) was used. Co...

mathematical model for auto-calibration of area-reduction method in sediment distribution of dam reservoir using genetic algorithm

abstract area-reduction method is one of the most common experimental methods that determines the sediment distribution in reservoirs. in this method, reservoirs are geometrically divided into four types. for all reservoir types, parameters are achieved based on a limited number of reservoirs which leads to large scale errors for prediction of this method. so suitable parameters can be achieved...

Numerical Studies of Coastal Internal-Wave Mixing

Away from surface and bottom boundary layers turbulent mixing is primarily driven by breaking internal waves. While internal wave energy is generated mostly in the form of large-scale waves (typically internal tides), it is the smallest-scale internal waves that break through shear or convective instabilities to produce turbulence. When waves are reasonably linear (as opposed to, for example, s...

postnatal studies of bats (pipistrellus kuhlii and miniopterus schreibersii) & histomorphology and histochemistry studies of organs and diseases of (neurergus microspilotus and n. kaiseri)

1. to determine whether difference in birth body mass influenced growth performance in pipistrellus kuhlii we studied a total of 12 captive-born neonates. bats were assigned to two body mass groups: light birth body mass (lbw: 0.89 ± 0.05, n=8) and heavy birth body mass (hbw: 1.35 ± 0.08, n=4). heavier body mass at birth was associated with rapid postnatal growth (body mass and forearm length) ...
